What is the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)?
This is Australia’s first National Insurance Scheme for people with a disability. The NDIS is federally funded and managed safety net that provides funding for supports and services for people with a permanent and significant disability.

I’ve just been approved for the NDIS, What do I do now?
You will need to start preparing for your planning meeting with the NDIS. It is important to get organised before the meeting so you can get the most out of it. An example of this is researching what types of services/supports are funded under core supports, and an estimate or recommendation of how much funding you would like. A list of preparation before the meeting can involve:
- Gathering necessary paperwork, assessments and diagnosis
- Making a list of goals you would like to achieve to improve your daily life
- Making a list of supports you currently access or need to access
What supports and services can I receive under the NDIS?
The supports and services provided must be ‘reasonable and necessary’ and are determined when creating your NDIS plan. These support and service must also
- Reach specific short and long term goals Initiate greater independence
- Increase Social/Economic
- Contribution Develop
- Community Capacity
- Represent Value for the funding
