How to get the most out of your Medicare visits in 2019
Just a quick note to remind you – if you weren’t aware, Medicare will ‘reset’ your benefits on the 31st of December (such as any subsidised referral’s allocated by your GP to a Physiotherapist, Exercise Physiologist, Podiatrist or Dietitian).
If you have a Medicare referral with visits that you are yet to use, Medicare will roll them into next year.
But, what they often fail to tell you is that if you claim the consultations from this year next year then those sessions will eat into the consultations you would receive again next year.
To recap if you do not use your whole benefit within the year, they do roll over to next year – but will be used up toward your new referral.
For example, 5 consultations are given to you. If you only use 3 this year and 2 rollovers to next. You will only be able to have 3 next year.
If you use all 5 this year, then you will receive another 5 next year.
If you fail to use your consultations it means that you are literally missing out – the small number of consultations you are eligible for are going to waste.
We highly recommend if you have any consultations remaining you use them up for the advantage of your health rather than going to waste.
I get how the Medicare system can be a little confusing, but we are here to answer any questions you have and to help you get the highest level of care when it comes to your health.
